This is a great month for writing articles and columns. I only picked three national and three international observances out of a very long list. There are a ton of ideas just floating around waiting to be written about.

Today I was on a conference call with a couple writers, an author, a few photographers, and a TV show producer and we were all talking about an online show we are working on. While we were talking about next week's shoot, the producer said, "September is such a great month for planning and making things happen, but it stinks for getting our writers on board to submit.

When he said that I about swallowed the pen I was chewing on, I forgot to update the Journalism 101 page to September, I also thought about the fact that I was one of those writers fitting into the 'stinkers not submitting'. Yes, I am busy with my coffeehouse, Yes I am taking on a ton of new projects, BUT, that does not change the fact that this is an amazing month to submit articles, essays, and columns, because there is a huge need to fill pages - both in print and online ie The Cypress Times.

During September, I would like to encourage you to find a subject that intrigues you and write about it. Then read it, post it here in Journalism 101, get feedback, and then submit it to John at The Cypress Times and see if it is Newsworthy and ready to be published.

I am going to be submitting a few articles this month dealing with different issues. You can jump on board and shoot for the same goal. Let's get cracking.

Comment by diana kay on September 18, 2009 at 3:37am: Hey there I am joining this group with a degree, not a acaedemic degree although I do have on of those in the scientific/medical word, but with a degree of aprehension fear and trembling a bit like when you walk into a crowded room of strangers and you wonder if you are in the right meeting , or when you stand at the edge of a swimming pool and people say you will really enjoy it once you are in.
I am testing the waters of journalism and writing. I have seen an advert for medical writers for educational material here in the UK. I am doing an Msc in primary health care and am just starting the 3rd and final year which at the end of it will require a 16000 or something word dissertation on "education and learning" I reckon I am going to need all the help advice and support I can get!
