How cute! It is so fascinating to watch little animals scurrying purposefully about their business - strangely relaxing to watch. I have birds that come and chirp away in the bushes in my back garden, bringing life and movement to it.

This devotion is a great reminder to me to humbly consider the needs of others instead of trying to get others to care about my needs. Thanks.

I lead a life of service to my 89 year-old landlady. She has been more than kind and gracious to me for the last 23 years, so when her closest family (her nephew) wanted to put her into a facility from rehab I told them "No," that I would take her h…

What a great blessing! Watching water and animals is so soothing. I have a bunch of rosellas (colourful birds) that come and sit in the branches of the trees around my house and I love watching them.

Thank you, Amanda, for all you do in The Wonders of God's Creation group. It's not an easy group to keep active, especially when you have been so unwell, but without you and your group, TCT Social Network just wouldn't be the same. I appreciate having you as part of the team. Your support means a lot to me. I look forward to having you part of the administration team in 2010.

There's going to be a change to a few of the groups in the New Year, and we'll probably meet at least one new administrator. I'm looking forward to placing that announcement in the Groups Administrators Support group in the next few weeks - before the news is announced in the particular groups, and the first Weekly Newsletter after New Year. I appreciate this team and I know you will continue to work together in harmony as we enter 2010. God bless.

We'll also be saying a sad goodbye to one of our favorites, but I'll place a separate discussion for that administrator next week so you can all share your farewells in one place.

I'd like to wish you all a very blessed Christmas and a safe and prosperous 2010.

Children who are gifted have special needs, too...

Recently a Twitter friend asked me if I had any information about behaviour in children identified as Gifted and Talented. My mind immediately went back to the late 90s, early 00s when I was helping to coordinate the Gifted and Talented Support group in a country area.

The dreaded power struggle

“Mark, can you sit down and do your work please?”

“No.”

“Mark, sit down please.”

“I don’t want to.”

“Sit down.”

“Why?”

“Because….because you need to do your work.”

“I don’t want to.”…

Half an hour later.

“MARK THOMAS ANTHONY PETERSON! Put your BOTTOM on your SEAT or… or…”

“What are you goin’ #$%#$% do?” You quickly duck out of the way of a flying chair. “I said I don’t want to do it!!”

Angry, you confront him and say “Don’t you throw things at me!”

“I will @#$%@ do what I @%%# wel

Supporting, caring for, parenting or teaching children with difficult behaviour... and keeping your hair

Since bringing up the issue of dealing with aggressive behaviour on my blog I have heard a range of comments from parents, teachers and teachers in training.

Some of the concerns for beginning teachers revolved around the fear of whether they could deal with difficult behaviour in the classroom. Both parents and teachers have asked the question, “How can I make sure I support the child displaying the aggressive behaviour whil… Continue
